The Carlos Falchi

Iconoclast recipient

Hobo

Established in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1991, HOBO's origins lie within the craft of leather. When Toni Ray, creator of the legendary 1970s D.C. Leather Shop, Georgetown Leather, passed the brand to her daughter, Koren Ray, in 2006, they both wanted to keep the company firmly grounded in the belief that our possessions should reflect our journey. Raised on the road in a VW bus, and spending time under the craft bench as her mother worked in her iconic shop, Koren learned first-hand to create with beauty, soul, and purpose. As HOBO thrives as a second generation, privately owned and family-operated brand, Koren and her husband, David Brewer, focus on creating beautiful, authentic leather goods that are made to last. They stay true to their passion and enduring design philosophy with handpicked leathers, timeless designs, flawless functionality, and a nostalgic tribute to the methods and soul of the 70s, creating bags that only get better with age. The HOBO Collection can be found at fine boutiques and department stores, as well as online at hobobags.com

Latico Leathers

Paul and Lainie Schreiber for Latico Leathers

Fresh out of college in 1985, Paul began selling leather goods out of his car trunk store-to-store in NYC. His casual, down-to-earth ways translated into bags that reflected the same qualities- mellow, leather basics with laid-back comfort and artisan quality. Specialty boutiques in Greenwich Village couldn't keep his merchandise in stock and soon the ever-famous rock group, The Grateful Dead and crew became fans of his naked-leather bags. As this was Latico's first lucky charm, it invited many other musicians to seek out our bags. Paul's fledgling leather company with a rock & roll twist was on its way to grow further in the leather basics industry.

So the story goes, downtown boy meets uptown girl and ... beautiful bags were born. With a New York Fashion background and an eye for crafting modern classics, Lainie launched Latico 's celebrated seasonal women's collection. Attention to details such as patent-pending dual function hardware, saturated colors, unexpected leather treatments, and extensive interior organization have become Latico signature features.

In addition to private label, Latico has also been the exclusive licensee for The Sharper Image, Frye, and Invicta. Latico always remember the grassroots from which we came, supplying heirloom-quality leather goods to boutique specialty shops across the country as they celebrate their 35th anniversary of their truly independent brand.
