Anissa Mekrabech - Askina Collection

Finalist of the The Leather Suede Skins Best Handmade Handbag

2020 Finalist Anissa Mekrabech Askina Collection

Have you ever sewn with or used an industrial sewing machine? If not, how do you sew with leather?
My bags are all made by sewing machine. First I design the bag, I use a Kraft paper to check the measurement and the feasibility of the project, I trace the pattern then I cut the leather, assembly it and sew.

What sewing machine do you use to make your bags? How long have you had it?

What is your design inspiration? Are there Instagram accounts that you follow for inspiration?
Yes, I make all of the bags by myself, from the pattern to the final piece.

Do you make all of your own bags? If not, please explain who helps you make your bags.
My design inspiration comes from a tiny portion of the trend and mainly from my creativity. We are all different so it is important to appreciate our individuality. I follow many instagram accounts from women who loves neutral colors and capsules wardrobe. My designs are minimalist, refined and functional. I, sometimes, add limited edition pieces (colorful leather, ...)

What is the primary material used?
I use a Pfaff 335. I have it since 2018.I also own a domestic sewing machine (Janome) and a serger (AEG).

How are your bags made?
Prior to this machine, I've never used an industrial sewing machine. I've learnt all by myself how to use it.
