What is your inspiration for this sketch?
The inspiration came from a sample of denim I found that had been manipulated with several layers of screen printing showing off a great effect of layered colours over denim which creates the canvas and background for this. I played with the natural tones of blue denim over a grey denim in order to show off the coloured tones more to bring out the playfulness of the GUESS brand.
Why did you select the particular materials to work within your sketch?
The inspiration came from a sample of denim I saw with several layers of screen-print in different tones of blue and grey. Hence I knew this needed to be the centrepiece of my design. In order to harmonise the print I chose an off-white leather and simple gold metal hardware to fir into the image of GUESS.
What is your design background?
I come from a diverse background, having grown up in Israel and gone to school in Hong Kong, before moving to London where I studied business and fashion at the prestigious London College of Fashion. During my final year at university I wanted to create a label that spoke pure luxury but with an accessible price tag. The idea was to build a true British brand by focusing on local sourcing and manufacturing.
Do you currently design your own handbags collection? If so, would your GUESS? Design fit into your current line?
I have designed my own line which has similar features to the bag I designer specifically for GUESS. My style is usually a lot more reserved, although I do like to play with a mix of different skins to create patterns on the bag, which is similar to the bag designed for GUESS. The chain and strap detail is taken from one of our bags which last year won a place amongst the finalists at the IHDA and this year has been re-designed to show off an even stronger design and construction.
What materials do you normally work with?
I usually work with soft leathers such as lamb nappa and recently python skin.
What can you offer to the GUESS? aesthetic?
I can offer my take on the GUESS aesthetic mixing in new fresh ideas and playing with colourful accent tones.
