The 9th Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards

The Carlos Falchi

Iconoclast recipient

Rebecca Minkoff

With a vision of building a lifestyle brand for the downtown romantic, San Diego-born designer Rebecca Minkoff founded her company in 2001 after she developed a small apparel line. She spent the next few years working on the small collection until 2005 when Rebecca developed the 'Morning After Bag'. The bag became an overnight sensation and Rebecca began solely concentrating on developing additional styles to build out her romantically themed day-to-night handbag collection. After four years of consistent growth in accessories under her belt, Rebecca returned to her original love of apparel design and introduced a ready-to-wear collection in 2009. RebeccaMinkoff's designs are a favorite for modern, trend-setting everyday women and celebrities alike. This is the reason why Rebecca Minkoff is the ICONOCLAST Recipient for the Ninth Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards.

Latico Leathers

Paul and Lainie Schreiber for Latico Leathers

Fresh out of college in 1985, Paul began selling leather goods out of his car trunk store-to-store in NYC. His casual, down-to-earth ways translated into bags that reflected the same qualities- mellow, leather basics with laid-back comfort and artisan quality. Specialty boutiques in Greenwich Village couldn't keep his merchandise in stock and soon the ever-famous rock group, The Grateful Dead and crew became fans of his naked-leather bags. As this was Latico's first lucky charm, it invited many other musicians to seek out our bags. Paul's fledgling leather company with a rock & roll twist was on its way to grow further in the leather basics industry.

So the story goes, downtown boy meets uptown girl and ... beautiful bags were born. With a New York Fashion background and an eye for crafting modern classics, Lainie launched Latico 's celebrated seasonal women's collection. Attention to details such as patent-pending dual function hardware, saturated colors, unexpected leather treatments, and extensive interior organization have become Latico signature features.

In addition to private label, Latico has also been the exclusive licensee for The Sharper Image, Frye, and Invicta. Latico always remember the grassroots from which we came, supplying heirloom-quality leather goods to boutique specialty shops across the country as they celebrate their 35th anniversary of their truly independent brand.
