Towana Phillip - To'sha

Finalist of the The Brother Best Handmade Handbag

United States

2019 Finalist Towana Phillip To'sha

How are your bags made?
All of our bags are 100% handmade. From cutting the pattern to the hole punching, that allows me to close the bag with handmade leather piping. Each bag is adorned with hand sculpted leather balls that is the driving force behind this collections design feature.

What is the primary material used?

Do you make all of your own bags? If not, please explain who helps you make your bags.
All of my bags are handmade by myself.

What is your design inspiration? Are there Instagram accounts that you follow for inspiration?
My favorite flower the Peony, is the inspiration behind the Botan collection. Botan is Peony in Japanese. Each bag features hand molded leather balls which represents the buds of the peony. Each bag is named after a different variety of the peony flower. I love @streetrends IG page. This page features streetwear fashion from all over the world.

What sewing machine do you use to make your bags? How long have you had it?
All my bags are handmade. But I learned how to sew on a singer machine that my mom bought me when I was 14.

Have you ever sewn with or used an industrial sewing machine? If not, how do you sew with leather?
Yes, I first learned how to sew on an industrial machine, but my latest collection is handmade.
